Red Butterfly collaborates with Red Ruby Pads for this Mandela Day Initiative!
“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” – Nelson Mandela.
More than 100 million women and girls around the world lack access to menstrual hygiene supplies. This presents challenges in school, at work, and in their daily lives. Red Ruby Pads and Red Butterfly wanted to change that narrative, so we collaborated for Mandela Day 2022.
Red Ruby Pads is a @masks2pads project where reusable sanitary pads are being made for girls in need. Their aim for this 67 minutes project was to prepare 67 care packages to a Zwide Clinic by the end of July 2022.
Red Ruby’s current goal is to supply all rural clinics and schools with care packages and ladies in outlying disadvantaged communities.
So today, we distributed 56 care packages to girls in Zwide! 56 buckets were handed out on this beautiful Lion’s Gate 08.08.2022.
Each bucket contained:
- 1 sunlight soap bar,
- 1 chocolate bar,
- 1 wet bag (to hold the used cloth pads),
- 2 x large cloth pads,
- 4 x medium cloth pads, and
- 1 x cloth bag for the clean pads.
Each girl also received a menstrual cycle information sheet, which I created to support proper period care.
The menstrual cycle information sheet included:
- how to wear the cloth pads,
- how to wash the cloth pads,
- period care,
- food to eat during periods, and
- how to manage period pains.
